AD | Breakout Cardiff - 12 Minutes to Spare

Our evening at Breakout Cardiff was free in exchange for a review.

Back at the end of November into my inbox pinged my most favourite type of blog opportunity - an escape rooms. This is my fourth escape rooms experience paid for by the venue and through them I have discovered my love for escape rooms and have paid for them and enjoyed them countless times more.

Watching the rugby in Cardiff a month ago I saw the posters for Breakout Cardiff, an escape rooms I hadn’t visited before and whadda ya know, the following week the email asking if I’d like to go along dropped into my Gmail.

Breakout is the most conveniently located of all the Cardiff escape rooms in my opinion, tucked away in the Brewery Quarter so a stone’s throw from the station and surrounded by yummy places to eat when you’re celebrating your escape. There’s a whole host of themed rooms which range in difficulty and ‘scaryness’ of themes and also includes two identically themed rooms where you can race against another team which is ideal for parties or works do’s.

I took my escape rooms squad; my Dad, brother and sister in law who have been tried and tested and are my best assets when it comes to being locked in a room for an hour. I let them pick what we did and in the end they chose a Friday night and we went for the Disturbed room, a 5 star difficulty room based on a story about a missing colleague and a gruesome crime scene.

As always, I can’t go into the details of the clues or show you photos of the rooms but we were met with lots of blood and chains when we walked in and I think that set the tone perfectly for the rest of the night. We were helped with clues every now and then and unlike some other escape rooms, we didn’t have to ask for them and they didn’t affect our time which I really liked. After some frustration and lots of fun we escaped with a cool 12 minutes to spare and burst out of the room relieved to be out but mainly pretty gutted we couldn’t do it all again.

Escape rooms are genuinely one of my favourite ways to spend a Friday night and our experience at Breakout was brilliant. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, vowing to go back over the Christmas holidays or in the New Year to try out some of the other rooms they have on offer.

Big thanks to Breakout Cardiff for our evening but in particular a huge thank you and special mention to our host, Rei, who made the experience all the better.
