Why We Got Married

Hello and welcome to the most unromantic list ever of why we decided 10 years was a decent enough time to tie the knot after all……

I always assumed I would - I’ve never been one to dream about my wedding or have every detail in place in my head before even having a kiss, but I have always just presumed I’d get married one day. And then the longer Jos and I were together the more it just became something we would do. After ten years together it’s less of a case of if we’ll get hitched but more of when we’d get round to it and whadda ya know……we did.

Jos wanted to before we had kids - Another thing just presumed about my future, that we’ll one day have our own family, ya know, things people do. I couldn’t have given two hoots if we got married or not or had kids, we’ve been together so long it wouldn’t have bothered me either way but Jos wanted to do something traditionally seen as we weren’t doing anything else ‘proper’ so it made sense.

Confirming we’re a team - We’ve been together since we were 17. We’ve grown up through school, university, graduations, learning to drive, moving in together, a million ikea trips and the odd holiday. There has never been any doubt we’re one of a pair, we’ve been more solid than the stock market for a long time but it’s nice to have it confirmed on a piece of paper innit.

Legal benefits - When you ask Jos why he wanted to get married he’ll say legal benefits but actually, he is much more romantic than I am about things. But legally, getting married is a solid investment in each other and our future. The systems in life are geared for marriage and everything is easier if you’re hitched in the eyes of the law and it really does have some weight to it.

We may as well! - Well when you’ve been together as long as we have why not throw a huge party to celebrate not murdering each other?
